Fletcher takes on a reading challenge to raise money for his good friend, Jacob

Fletcher has decided to raise money for a charity very close to his heart.  Jacob, aged 8, is a close friend of Fletcher's and was born with retinoblastoma- a form of childhood eye cancer, which has caused him to be almost completely blind.

Jacob has gone through hundreds of operations and tests, and still regularly visits GOSH for appointments and ‘magic eye’ fittings.

Fletch feels extremely proud of his friend and how he deals with all the new challenges he is faced with, especially now as Jacob is learning to use a Braille machine.

Fletch wants to raise money to help provide Jacob and other children like him with some of the equipment they need to help them in everyday life. So, he has decided to read a book every day in December to raise money via his Go Fund Page.  The money raised will be donated to CHECT (childhood eye cancer trust).

Miss Smith said: 'It's lovely that Fletcher has taken it upon himself to try and support his friend and raise money for such a good cause. Showing empathy is one of our core school values, and 'Give' is one of the 5 ways to well-being we promote with children. To see Fletcher use these outside of school is fantastic. We are extremely proud of Fletcher and pleased to have such a kind and caring young man in our school community. We hope that everyone will support him to achieve his goal.'
